Eyes For Summer

The shades from M.A.C's Neo Sci-Fi and Solar Field collections are simply stunning for summer.

Eyes On Winter

I know summer started this weekend, but I just cannot resist either piece. Trench dress and cape by Veronique Branquinho and Hedi Slimane's wool cape for Dior Homme.

Sassy July 1989

Issue: Sassy 1989
Robert Downey, Jr. photographed by Mark Hanauer
Editorial: Lived-In Looks Photographed by: Steven White
Fashion Editor: Catherine Raphaely

I've seen Ironman twice, so I was attracted to Sassy's 17th issue with the then 23 year old Robert Downey, Jr. on the cover. Inside the above hazy summer spread caught my eye, and instantly I was reminded of various Spring/Summer 2008 collections: Vena Cava, Lanvin, Calvin Klein, Hermes, Dsquared, and Phillip Lim.

Another flashback thought.....the beautiful braid is still a summer classic.

Marie Claire March 1999

Issue: Marie Claire 1999
Cover: Amber Valletta Photographed by: Patrick Demarchelier
Editorial: Spring's New Look Photographed by: Patrick Demarchelier
Stylist: Carlyne Cerf de Dudzeele

The news of Nina Garcia heading to Marie Claire managed to reach every nook and cranny in the US this week, including where I had been summoned. As I was catching up with the blog world yesterday, there were quite a few comments ridiculing Marie Claire magazine. Why? I find it fantastic. The magazine commands talented collaborators and admired designers. The staff are experts at mixing the high end and mainstream lines. Oh, and don't forget the British sister. She'll do just fine. Good luck, Nina.

A couple other thoughts....the Alexander McQueen for Givenchy suit is breathtaking....Demarchelier style seems to be in high demand for March 1999...

Harper's Bazaar March 1999

Issue: Harper's Bazaar March 1999
Cover: Elizabeth Hurley Photographed by: Patrick Demarchelier
Editorial: POP Photographed by: Patrick Demarchelier
Fashion Editor: Melanie Ward

Since the turn of the century was approaching, majority of the March issue was geared towards sportswear. I had to feature this sequence of photos because of the Keith Haring elements, and Erin O'Conner is stunning as usual.

Another note.....I'll be away from the blog for a week. So I hope you enjoy the post!

Les Belles Robes de Paris 1909-1939

Dress: Madeleine Vionnet
Photographs: Irving Penn

I found the book Les Belles Robes de Paris in Sarasota, Fl at a very random used bookstore. Published in 1978, the text was written by Diana Vreeland....every syllable in French. It didn't matter. The book was coming home with me. Penn's photos needed no words, just beautiful, beautiful dresses.
